A joint investigation led by the National Cyber Crime Unit and information security firm Trend Micro has led to two UK arrests.
Following a joint investigation by the National Crime Agency, police in the UK have arrested two people from Essex on suspicion of operating a "crypting" website which helps criminals circumvent antivirus software and disguise malware. The website, reFUD.me, provided a number of free and paid for crypting services enabling malware developers to make their code fully undetectable, or "FUD".
Steve Laval, of the National Cyber Crime Unit (NCCU), said:
"This ongoing investigation shows how the NCA is taking its work with industry to combat cyber crime to the next level.
"Although the website offered services designed to help circumvent antivirus software, computer users can protect themselves from most malware threats by taking some simple precautions.
"The NCA urges all internet users to ensure they have up-to-date antivirus software installed on their machines and to avoid clicking on unknown or suspicious links or email attachments."
The man and woman, both 22 years old and from Colchester, were detained in connection with the reFUD.me website and released on bail until February 2016 pending further enquiries.
