Operation Hawk to target North Yorkshire Crime

A major operation to combat rural and cross border crime was launched this week by North Yorkshire Police.

With the help of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology and information shared with neighbouring police stations, the campaign, Operation Hawk aims to disrupt those criminals who operate in rural communities who have targeted farms, rural businesses, outbuildings and vehicles.

The operation will be co-ordinated with the help from volunteers from rural, farm and border watch schemes as well as national parks and the National Farmers Union to help spread advice about crime prevention.

Ken McIntosh, who is leading Operation Hawk, said: "We are absolutely determined to crack down on travelling criminals who create misery and distress for residents in some of our most rural and remote locations."
