On 15 November, 37 police and crime commissioners were elected throughout England and a further 4 in Wales.
Good news for South Yorkshire, since police numbers dropped, this left them to share work with other forces.
With crime figures down, the PCCs are now encouraging locals to make suggestions about tackling crime in their area.
Their priority is to enhance community confidence and safety. In order to maintain this safety, senior officers have identified the tackling of serious and organised crime, terrorism and extremism as their focus.
With a budget now set at £251m for 2012/2013, the council tax increase has also helped with police funding. Based on the average Band D property, this was a rise of £5.22 per household, from the previous year.
By increasing council tax, the county's police authority said it hoped to secure around £2m a year. This would help if any further policing cuts were made in 2013 onwards.
