A motorist has blamed his dog after being caught speeding. Jordan Winn was clocked doing 100mph in a 30 mph zone last October.
At a previous hearing he admitted dangerous driving on the grounds he could not control the car because of his 'excitable' Staffordshire Bull Terrior, Buster.
Winn was traveling at high speed when he was spotted by a police officer who was parked in Chester-le-Street, County Durham. The officer radioed the control room and set off in pursuit of the Volvo.
Footage played in court showed the police car traveling at 88 mph and struggling to keep up with the 23-year-old, and the officer estimates that Winn must have been driving at close to 100 mph.
Judge Prince told Winn "You advanced an utterly ridiculous account on which you were to insist for over a year. You told the police officer the reason you drove in that manner is because the dog that was in your vehicle was jumping around and became trapped beneath your foot."
That claim was dismissed at the previous hearing, known as a trial of issue. Judge Prince said he would be failing the public if he did not immediately jail Mr Winn. Winn has been jailed for 13 months and has been banned from driving for three years.
