Man Jailed For Taking Knife Into Nightclub

A court has heard how a Scunthorpe man with an "abysmal record" of previous convictions tried to get into a nightclub with a kitchen knife in his pocket, in the early hours of Christmas day.

At his sentencing at Grimsby Crown Court, Archibald Pollock pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article in a public place, and possession of cannabis.

Prosecuting, Jessica Southcote-Want said Pollock went to Schnapps bar at around 12.45am and was refused entry by a doorman who knew the 27-year-old to be on a Pubwatch list of banned people.

As Pollock turned to leave, the doorman saw the knife sticking out of the back pocket of his jeans, and seized it from him. Pollock then told the doorman that somebody was "going to get stabbed."

Miss Southcote-Want said:

"The blade was recovered and handed to the police. It was a 10cm blade in length.

"Officers were called to the nightclub and Pollock walked off at that point.

"Two officers attended and as they were driving away, the defendant ran at the police vehicle and jumped in, saying he was being chased from another club."

Officers noted that Pollock "appeared to be under the influence of something" and that a small bag of cannabis was found on him during the arrest process. Pollock was jailed for 14 months.
