Capriann Welsh and Thomas Wheeler have been sentenced to a combined prison term of more than two years following their recent sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court.
This culmination of a four-year police investigation led to the incarceration of Welsh and Wheeler, who were found guilty of child cruelty. Despite their impending court case and subsequent imprisonment, the couple, aged 27 and 28, respectively, celebrated their marriage in May, hosting a reception at Doncaster's Catholic Club.
During this celebration, Wheeler exhibited arrogance by gesturing obscenely toward the camera, while Welsh, previously employed as a barmaid at Doncaster's Little Plough, engaged in playful antics captured in photographs.
Even after their conviction, Wheeler maintained a cocky demeanor, blowing kisses and smiling at both police officers and members of the public in the court gallery.
The charges against the couple stemmed from an incident of cruelty toward a person under the age of 16 that occurred on August 9, 2019. As a result, Welsh received a prison sentence of one year and two weeks, while Wheeler was sentenced to 15 months. Another charge of child cruelty against them was placed on file by the court.
According to social media posts, Welsh and Wheeler tied the knot on May 27, with a pre-wedding message on the pub's Facebook page celebrating the occasion.
The child involved, whose identity remains protected by legal provisions, is now under the guardianship of a legal guardian who attested, "They are now safe, loved, and happy with their new family, who spoil them and are raising them to be respectful and considerate of others. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us throughout this challenging period."
