An 85 year old Sussex pensioner has become Britain's oldest female drink driver when she pleaded guilty at Brighton Magistrates Court recently.
Betty Teague from Shoreham-By-Sea was pulled over by Police when she was found to be driving slowly with no lights on back in April, along the A27.
The grandmother of seven admitted to having a Vodka and Coke with her pub dinner then dropping her grandson off at home before she was caught by officers.
Speaking to Mail Online reporters, Betty said, "Yes I've been banned for a year. It is a shame, I love driving".
Following her first ever court appearance, the pensioner was pictured defiantly waving a fist after she was banned from the roads for 12 months.
Failing a road side breath test, the 85 year olds' sample revealed that she had 100 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood in her system – the legal limit is just 80.
Superintendent Jane Derrick commented on Betty's case, saying, "It is totally unacceptable to drink and drive. As far as we are concerned, one drink is one drink too many".
Speaking of Mrs Teague's ban, she went on to say that the case proved there is no such thing as a typical drink driver.
"Teague could have easily caused an accident by the way she was driving, but luckily we were able to stop her before that could happen and she is now banned from the roads for the next year".
