Key points to keep your home safe:

• Keep any valuables safe, well hidden and where possible, locked away.
• Keep your door closed and locked even when you are home. 
• Remove keys that are close to the door or inside locks. Keep them out of sight.
• Fit strong locks to all doors and windows, ensuring they are locked when not in use.
• Invest in further security equipment, i.e alarms, outside security lighting, security cameras.
• Visible security features act as a deterrent.
• Keep any tools and ladders locked up and out of sight to a potential burglar.
• Do not advertise or tell people in public that you are going away or won't be home. Online social sites can be used by burglars to find their next target.

If the worst happens, and your home is broken into, firstly you need to report the incident to the police providing any witness details or evidence.

After the police have left, you may feel like there is no one to help pick up the pieces and this can cause a lot of stress.
