The MP for Ellesmere Port & Neston has demanded an urgent Commons debate as unemployment in the constituency continues to rise.
As unemployment rises further in Ellesmere Port & Neston, MP Justin Madders calls for an urgent debate in the House of Commons to address the continuing North-South divide. Figures released this week showed the total number of unemployed claimants had risen by 1,101,122 from December 2014 to December 2015.
Speaking in the House of Commons Mr Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port & Neston, said:
"I was disappointed by the Prime Minister's triumphalism on unemployment because yet again unemployment went up in my constituency as it has done in many constituencies.
"And of the 75 where it went up most, just seven were in the south of England.
"So can we have an urgent debate on the continuing North-South divide before the Northern Powerhouse goes the way of the Big Society and hug a hoodie?"
Mr Madders also highlighted that although the unemployment figure had declined nationally, it has increased over the last 12 months in over 100 constituencies.
