Councillors in Cheshire East have unanimously approved a scheme for housing, employment and community facilities on a site in Crewe.
Cheshire East Council has approved an application for 325 houses and an employment development for Basford East in Crewe, which developers say could create up to 1,200 jobs. Despite initial concerns about cemetery provision and a safe walking route to Shavington Academy, members of the strategic planning board gave the go-ahead after an hour and a half.
David Burkinshaw, of Muse Developments, said:
"We're delighted to get the go ahead on this transformational project at Basford East. It will breathe new life into the site, long seen as a key development opportunity, and could create up to 1,200 jobs.
"The reaction from the council and the community alike has been positive and, with the new link road in place, Basford East will become a thriving community where people can live, work and access new services."
Approved in April, the first phase included permission for up to 490 houses and a primary school; with a planning application for phase three expected at a later date.
