Britain's Failing High Streets

In recent years the British High Street has seen many casualties of the recession. Some of the largest retailers to be hit include the likes of HMV, Blockbuster, Jessops and Comet.

In most town centres across  the North West the all too familiar sight of boarded up premises, take away's and charity shops is becoming the norm. Often councils can offer discounts on rent to encourage new start-up businesses but often it is the business rates than can be crippling. So what  is the future for the Commercial Property Market?

The Business Innovation and Skills Committee has started an investigation into the retail sector and the Policy Exchange has called for a two year freeze on business rates to help with recovery on the high street.
