Doctors are battling to save a young mother's sight after she was hit by a stiletto on a pub dance floor.
The incident happened at a pub in Farnworth, near Bolton. One woman aimed a high kick, which sent her shoe flying across the room, connecting with the victim's eye.
Paramedics attended the victim, named locally as Katrina Coucill, before rushing her to the Royal Bolton Hospital, where she is being treated for the serious eye injury.
According to witnesses, several people thought to be involved in the incident fled the scene, and police are appealing for witnesses.
A friend of Ms Coucill explained they were in the pub celebrating the Bank Holiday.
Det Sgt Patrick Wood said the probable offenders left the pub when they realised somebody had been hurt.
He said 'We believe a woman was part of this group and she kicked out at the victim... The pub was very busy and it is likely somebody would have seen what happened. I would appeal to anyone who was there and saw what happened or indeed those involved to contact police.'
Greater Manchester Police have arrested two women, aged 21 and 28, and a 28-year-old-man on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.
