An Oldham man narrowly avoided serious injury after a car smashed into the porch of his house during morning rush-hour.
Karl Highton, 52, was still upstairs when the Ford Focus veered off-road and ploughed into the front of his home on Halifax Road, Oldham. Mr Highton, who usually leaves the house at the time the incident occurred, was saved from a horrific car crash by being late for work.
Mr Highton, who claims cars have crashed into several houses on Halifax Road over the last five years, said:
"Funnily enough, I was late for work. Had I been a few minutes earlier I could have been in the porch when the car hit. I'm very grateful I wasn't!
"I think the crashes are caused by a combination of things. There's something wrong with the camber in the road but also drivers come off the motorway at junction 22, onto this long, winding road and they don't realise how dangerous it is."
Mr Highton, who runs Bloomfields sandwich shop in Royton, described the moment of impact as "an almighty bang" as the car obliterated his porch.
