A homemade bomb was found on the doorstep of Dionne Hendry who is married to murderer Jamie Bain.
Dionne Hendry, found the bomb when her range rover was blasted outside of her Edinburgh home on Saturday night.
The Daily Record reported the shooter was left with a drum of petrol and shotgun cartridges attached to it.
The bomb was wrapped in a Liverpool FC scarf and had a message attached to the front saying "Times running out lad."
Another similar advice was found at Bain's home and on it, was stencilled "Pay, what you are due lad."
Bain who is apparently involved in the drug trade is in debt to a Liverpool gang.
An anonymous source said: "The Liverpool FC scarf makes it clear who is involved."
Bomb disposal experts were called to the scene as police sealed off the street for public safety.
It is understood a man came looking Dionne at a relative's home on Friday night asking about her whereabouts but relatives sent the man away.
Dionne married Bain, 30 at a prison ceremony in July. Bain is currently serving life for the murder of Alex McKinnon in 2006.
Kenny Gray, Detective Chief Inspector, who is leading the inquiry, said: "This is a serious incident which is unacceptable in our community."
