A campaign has been launched to bring a zebra crossing, road markings, and road signs to a 'worryingly dangerous' road in Burnley.
Cllr Neil Mottershead has received several concerns from nearby residents regarding the behaviour of drivers who use Padiham Road in Burnley. He is now calling on Lancashire County Council to provide extra safety measures before a serious accident occurs.
He argues that the proximity to a school and the crossing's regular use by the elderly, means that a proper pedestrian crossing is essential. He has launched an online petition to create a backing for the new road markings.
Cllr Mottershead has already met with Cllr Keith Iddon who is in charge of highways with Lancashire County Council, to discuss how dangerous the road is.
Cllr Iddon said:
"I have had a look at the road with Cllr Mottershead and I do sympathise with him greatly on this issue. However it is the council's policy to prioritise roads and areas which have had incidents on them before.
"There are lots of schools throughout Lancashire which do not have a crossing outside and it would be ideal if we could put one in front of every school."
