The Metropolitan Police have issued a statement reporting the escape of a prisoner facing terrorism-related charges from Wandsworth prison.
The man in question is Daniel Abed Khalife, a 21-year-old serving member of the British Army who was awaiting trial on charges related to terrorism and violations of the Official Secrets Act. Khalife stands at a height of 6 feet 2 inches and boasts short brown hair.
At the time of his escape, Khalife was wearing a white t-shirt, red and white checkered trousers, and brown steel toe cap boots, as confirmed by law enforcement officials. The police believe he is likely still within the London area.
Cdr Dominic Murphy, who leads the Met's Counter Terrorism Command, addressed the situation, stating, "We have assembled a dedicated team of officers who are conducting extensive and time-sensitive investigations to locate and apprehend Khalife at the earliest opportunity."
Cdr Murphy also appealed to the public for their assistance, saying, "We urge the community to assist us in our efforts. If anyone spots Khalife or possesses information regarding his whereabouts, we urge them to promptly contact the emergency number 999 or the authorities."
He went on to reassure the public, stating, "It's important to emphasize that we do not possess any information or evidence suggesting that Khalife poses a threat to the general public. Nevertheless, in the event of a sighting, we strongly advise against approaching him and instead advise calling 999 immediately."
