Celebrity Chef Gino D'Campo has won a battle to prevent ramblers and autograph hunters allegedly hounding him by loitering around the footpath near his £1.2 million property.
The dispute has lasted for over 2 years as he's argued with his neighbours regarding the possible closure of the footpath. Mr Campo wanted the public path, that leads to a medical centre, to be shut as a mechanism to prevent fans pestering him.
Gino, 43, and his wife have lived in the property for four years and have commented that they want the extra privacy to protect their three children. By contrast locals living neaer the Grade-II listed seven-bedroom town house in Hoddesdon, Herts, want the path to remain open.
In what has been described as an "unusual agreement" reached with the local council it has been agreed that the footpath will be closed on evenings and weekends and it will only be open between 7:30am and 7pm Monday to Friday.
Jessica D'Campo explained in planning documents, "I just want my family which includes young children to feel safe and secure and have privacy. A couple of times I have had people in my garden taking pictures and there are frequent knocks on the door with people asking for pictures of Gino or signed books."
As extra security the D'Acampo home is protected by a high wooden fence and steel gates.
A notice was previously placed at the entrance to the path stating that it was not a "right of way" and warned walkers not to dawdle at any point. Neighbours latterly complained that the path had been open to the public for years and the chef should not be allowed to close it off.
Local resident, T Drackett, said, "Since Mr and Mrs D'Acampo purchased the premises, there has been nothing but obstructions. If they want peace and quiet in the evenings and at weekends, then purchase a property away from a busy town."
