Even the most diligent individuals can't escape falling victim to accidents from time to time, and new research has revealed five of the most common workplace mishaps.
5. Struck by a moving vehicle
Whether car accidents in the office car park, or injuries sustained with forklift trucks, over 1000 workplace injuries involving moving vehicles were reported in the past year.
4. Toppling objects
This type of injury is especially prevalent in warehouse and retail environments. An employee can be carrying too many objects, gravity takes hold, and injuries can easily occur.
3. Hit by falling objects
This may seem like one chance in a million, but in fact 5,789 were injured by falling objects at work in the last year alone.
2. Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
Repetitive Strain Injury occurs thanks to the repetition and routine of the daily grind. Typing, staring at computer screens and heavy lifting can all lead to RSI, so it is important not to simply ignore aches and pains that don't go away.
1. Slips and trips
A staggering 13,646 employees were injured due to slips and trips last year. Dim stairways, loose paving and uneven floors can all be trip hazards, so if you notice any of these in the workplace, inform your employer before you or a colleague gets injured.
