A 23 year old nursing assistant was brutally punched and kicked in the face by two men who tried to steal her IPhone while she walked home from work.
As Stephanie Atha made her way from West Lane Hospital in Middlesborough, she was approached by two men who made a grab for the phone and when she snatched it out of reach, they began punching her in the face.
Suffering painful bruising to her face, ribs and legs, Miss Atha admits that her training at the hospital working with mental health patients meant she had learned restraints and how to defend herself.
Telling reporters from the Daily Mail that as she slipped on a muddy slope her attackers continued to subject her to violence and abusive language so she "simply curled up in a ball".
Miss Atha had walked the same route hundreds of times and after getting the bus home to Guisborough, she began the five minute walk to her front door shortly after 11pm.
The victim who is currently on sick leave since the attack admits that she is now too afraid to leave the house unless accompanied by her boyfriend.
"I just feel very anxious when I'm out of the house and that's not me at all" she admits. "I hope I can get justice and that the police find them and they get jailed and realise how far they've taken it".
