New advice from the Telegraph website, written by Nicole Blackmore, tells us to make sure pension paperwork is up to date.
If not, there could be dispute as to "who gets what" once you are gone.
It reports that, if you want a say in who gets what the "The Expression of Wish" documents must be accurate and up to date.
The new advice comes because the decisions made by Pension Scheme Trustees following a death are increasingly being challenged, because Expressions of Wish weren't up to date.
These decisions are being made on behalf of the Deceased by Trustees of the scheme if the deceased person's intentions were not clear. And because of this disputes are all too frequent.
The question is, who should be the beneficiary if the Pension paperwork is out of date and circumstances have changed?
Trustees either decide to take the members wishes into account or if there is another solution, via an upto date Will, they could follow this instead if it seems to be more appropriate.
At present it seems rare that the Expression of Wish forms are updated after a person starts contributing to a Pension but they should be if that person wishes to alter his beneficiaries.
