One woman has spent £6.4m in legal costs to divorce her husband and as a consequence a leading judge has called for caps on the costs involved.
Mr Moor ruled that Mrs Young should only receive £20m following her divorce from husband Mr Young. This was ruled despite Mrs Young claiming her former husband had a 'few billion' to his name.
The judge felt the amount spent on the legal costs, and especially expert "forensic" evidence, was 'completely unacceptable'.
Moor said that if solicitors and clients were not willing to have a "legal cost limit" then the court will have to impose criteria instead.
This very complex case lasted nearly seven years, required 65 preliminary hearings, followed by a final hearing that lasted 20 days. The judge described the case as the most complex he'd ever dealt with.
Catherine Thomas, from the London law firm representing Michelle Young, said: 'There were 10,000 pages of court documents, 24 witnesses and assets spanning three continents, which really gives a sense of the scale and magnitude of the case.'
