Three people have been held on suspicion of breaching immigration laws after arrests were made in Greater Manchester as part of an ongoing investigation.
A man, 31, and woman, 32, were arrested at an address in Stanley Grove, Longsight by immigration enforcement officers and the National Crime Agency early on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into illegal immigration. A 24 year old man was also arrested at an address on Wilbraham Road, Chorlton and a further seven arrests were made in Sheffield and London in connection with the crime.
Dave Magrath, from Home Office Immigration Enforcement Criminal Investigations, said:
"We are determined to crack down on all forms of immigration crime.
"These arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected abuse of the student visa system."
The criminal investigation is focused on a suspected fraud operation using fictitious colleges to bring non-EU nationals into the UK on student visas. The arrestees are also being held on suspicion of money laundering after a significant amount of cash was seized.
