A website promoting quickie divorces on You Tube has come under fire from the Advertising Standards Authority according to a report in the Law Society Gazette.
The You Tube campaign ran by Quickie Divorce Ltd claimed that they are the 'Leading Providers of online divorces'.
Following complaints made to the ASA, Quickie Divorce have been told to stop making the claims as these cannot be substantiated.
The campaign featured a woman speaking to camera telling viewers that the company was 'firmly established as the UK's leading provider of online divorces'.
The ASA recently upheld the complaint saying that, "We considered that, to substantiate claims of market leadership, Quickie Divorce should have provided detailed comparative data for their main competitors, illustrating that they acted on behalf of clients in a greater number of divorces".
In their defence, Quickie Divorce who own the website claim their competitors do not publish the total number of divorces they file.
Following the ruling the ASA found that the advertisement had breached three rules and must not appear again in its current form, unless it provides 'robust evidence' to substantiate it.
Quickie Divorce provided figures which concluded they had amassed a 22.5% market share of divorce cases between April and June 2013.
The ASA was not satisfied by the number of cases the online divorce provider had worked on during this period and said that the company was 'unable to ascertain the total number of divorces worked on by competitors'.
