Dozens of motorists fined for parking at a town centre retail park have expressed their anger after discovering the cameras that caught them were erected without planning permission.
Residents and businesses alike have hit out at the parking restrictions at the King Street Retail Park, where fines have been issued to drivers who have overstayed the two-hour time limit.
Parking cameras were erected at the site by Creative Parking Solutions last May, but the company took until December to pay for planning permission for two poles on which the cameras are mounted.
Cllr Jean Gillies has been inundated with complaints from local residents, and is encouraging those fined to appeal their parking charge notices. She said:
"I have had about 80 people contact me about this and was first told about it by Wobbly Bobs play centre when one of their customers was fined. I have told the landowner that they shouldn't be fining people without going through the proper procedure.
"The other businesses in that area are suffering as a result because people don't want to risk parking there and being fined.
"I am shocked by some of the things I have heard. We say that Farnworth is struggling and things like this don't help at all."
