Undercover immigration agents have busted a bogus Bulgarian wedding scam right here in Manchester.
The tip off came when staff from Manchester Register Office became suspicious of the sham marriages and contacted police.
Two women and a fake groom have been jailed for 'conspiring to facilitate breach of UK Immigration Law' according to a report by the Daily Mail.
The bogus brides had been recruited by Skype and were paid over £4,000 for coming to the UK and marrying two Pakistani men who were forced with deportation.
Twenty year old Nadya Kamenova together with 21 year old Tamenuzkha Slavcheva, arrived in the UK after being contacted online by Kamenova's UK based aunt who is suspected of being one of the organisers.
Rochdale based fake groom Muhammed Saleem married Slavcheva under the watchful eye of undercover border control officers at Manchester Register Office.
Saleem is understood to have took part in the ceremony, paying Slavcheva £1,000 following the withdrawal of his student visa.
He is understood to have acted as a witness just four days earlier when Kamenova took part in her fake marriage to Mohammed Shahbaz who has so far escaped arrest.
Kamenova who received £3,400 for her part in the scam will serve 20 months behind bars as will Saleem. Slavcheva was sentenced to just 12 months in prison.
