Family's Fury After Grandmother is 'Dumped on her Doorstep'

A grandmother with dementia was sent home from hospital in a taxi where she was 'dumped on her doorstep' alone, with no keys, and wearing only her pyjamas.

Florence Myerscough, 76, was admitted to the Royal Bolton Hospital with severe back pain in the early evening of Christmas day, and was discharged around 10pm.

But her family are furious after claiming the grandmother-of-six was dropped off by a taxi ordered by the hospital, and left alone in the cold with no way of getting inside.

It was only when a neighbour called Mrs Myerscough's daughter, Karen Bye, to say she was with her that the family realised what had happened.

Heather Edwards, of Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, said:

"Our protocol is we instruct the taxi driver to ensure the patient is not left outside their home, but seen to enter safely.

"We are not clear what happened in this particular case and would ask Mrs Bye to get in touch so we can discuss it further."
