636,000 Immigrants Have Arrived in the UK in the Last 12 Months

According to new figures release by the Home Office, the UK has seen a staggering number of immigrants arriving in the UK in the last 12 months.

The Home Office has revealed that in the last 12 months alone, there were 636,000 new arrivals into the UK and the net migration figure hit its highest total yet of 336,000. As well as 50,000 migrants coming to the UK from Bulgaria and Romania alone, the increase is equivalent to an extra 920 people coming to the UK every day.

Simon Ross, of the pressure group Population Matters, said:

"Britain already has the smallest new builds in Europe - pokey flats with no gardens - and that's because of land prices with England being the most densely populated country in Europe.

"More people will result in house prices going up even further. The population increase will see those with the most money being okay but those poorly paid being forced out of town and facing longer commutes."

Not only is the UK facing a potential housing crisis as a result of the population increase, UK hospitals, schools and roads also face added pressure as projections show the number of schools would need to rise from 24,000 to 28,000 to account for the increase.
