Ryanair fight claims

In a disputed incident regarding what has been termed as "bogus claims" Ryanair has stated that they will defend against claims made by a law firm with respect to an "inflight incident".

The Aviation Law Team of a national legal practice said it was seeking compensation for those who were "injured and traumatised" as their flight carried out an emergency decent due to a loss of cabin pressure.

Ryanair referred to the claims as, "spurious" and said they would, "vigorously defend" the proceedings.

It emerged that the flight in question concerned a Boeing 737-800 which was traveling from Milan to East Midlands on April 4 2012. After carrying out a 20,000 ft, emergency descent,  the aircraft was diverted to Frankfurt.

The loss of cabin pressure led to the release of oxygen masks onboard the aircraft.

According to the inhouse team of lawyers Ryanair had previously admitted liability under the Montreal Convention for the in-flight incident.

As their is a time limit of twenty four months to bring a claim, and as other passengers are seemingly intent to make a claim, the law firm has issued proceedings against Ryanair in order to "protect their rights".

In response Ryanair quoted the Montreal Convention and a spokesman said, "Under the Montreal Convention, passengers may only make a claim for physical injuries arising from an incident on board an aircraft. Claims for psychological or emotional distress are not recoverable and will be dismissed".

Furthermore the spokesman commented, "Ryanair has a policy of not negotiating or settling bogus claims such as these and xxxxx's attempt to generate publicity for themselves will not alter this policy in any way".
