A newlywed couple are set to take legal action against Thomas Cook after their 5* honeymoon was ruined by severe food poisoning.
Liam and Dannie Roberts, from Wythenshawe in Greater Manchester, say they are still suffering from the illness four months after their stay at the Moon Palace Golf and Spa Resort in Cancun, Mexico.
The couple claim there was litter left around the pool, food left uncovered with insects swarming around it, and meals served lukewarm.
While at the hotel, the couple both fell ill with abdominal pains, sickness and diarrhoea. After continuing to suffer symptoms upon their return, the newly weds visited their GPs. Mr Roberts was diagnosed with parasitic infectioncyclospora, and Mrs Roberts with salmonella.
They will now pursue legal action against Thomas Cook.
Jose Luis Gonzalez, social media manager for the hotel, said:
"The resort is governed by strict regulations set forth by the health and sanitation authorities in Mexico and we are in total compliance with this.
"Furthermore, our resort has been certified with the 'Distintivo H.'
"This award is issued by the Secretary of Tourism to top resorts in Mexico after a year's worth of surprise health inspections under the strictest guidelines."
