Jeremy Hunt Responds to the Francis Report.

This week Jeremy Hunt began responding to the Francis Enquiry which detailed of the failings of the NHS managers at Mid Staffordshire hospital. Between 400 and 1200 deaths occurred over a 5 year period.

It is widely thought that cuts to funding in the NHS, staff shortages and poor standards of training have led to inadequate standards of patient care. Birmingham has been no exception to the national trend.

The Medical Protection Society has estimated that negligence claims against GP's have risen by 40% since last year. Overall there has been a rise of over 50% of claims against doctors and healthcare professionals.

Going forward the emphasis is on safe care for every patient and a strict requirement for accountability.
