Workmen empty wrong flat by mistake

A traumatised tenant has told how she returned home to find workers had cleared out her flat by mistake.

Mary Russell found that her door had been taken off its hinges, and items such as furniture and even the food in her freezer had been removed. Clothes, towels, joints of meat and TVs were among the other items taken from her property in Willenhall, Coventry.

Whitefriars Housing staff were meant to be clearing out the flat above, but somehow emptied the wrong property. While the housing association admit a mistake has been made, Mary has yet to be reunited with her belongings.

The 59-year-old says that her Christmas has been ruined, and she has been forced to stay with friends as her front door has not yet been replaced. She has even had to seek medication from her doctor due to the stress caused by the incident.

Anne Turner, area services manager at Whitefriars, said "This was a mistake on our part and one for which we have apologised to Ms Russell. On Monday I attended Ms Russell's property along with our head of estate services to speak with her directly. We take incidents like this very seriously and are carrying out a full internal investigation into what happened."
