New Service to Bring Conveyancing into the Digital Age

The Law Society has given their backing to a new service that will give house buyers and sellers the ability to track the legal process of their property transactions online. The portal, titled Veyo, is due to be launched in the spring and aims to bring conveyancing into the digital age.


Veyo aims to speed up the conveyancing process by allowing solicitors, buyers, lenders and estate agents to monitor transactions in real time and upload and amend documents online as and when necessary. It also aims to eliminate one of the main issues of the property transaction process; a break in the chain.


Frustrated by the lack of communication and information about delays, many end up pulling out of the process. Elliot Vigar, chief executive of Veyo, said:


"You no longer phone your bank manager for basic information about your account. So why should you phone your conveyancing solicitor?", adding: "We don't necessarily expect it to solve big problems, but increasingly people expect to know at least why things are held up or when they might expect to get an answer."


Much of the conveyancing process remains relatively traditional, with most correspondence still being carried out by post. Veyo aims to change that and, although digital signatures are not yet permitted for key areas of the sale process, such documents will be viewable online rather than solely in the back of a delivery van.
