Manchester Model Village Agony

When Manchester man Alan Teague set about creating his very own model village right in the front garden of his detached home in the 1970's, it became a popular tourist attraction.

But when Mr Teague and his family moved to Devon in 1993, he expected the new occupants to maintain his beloved work and was heartbroken when he returned recently to Levenshulme and discovered his village in ruins.

Beginning the intricate model village when he was just 24 years old as a hobby, the former gardener created a fantasy world by his own front door.

With a passion for horticulture and architecture, Alan created a complete village with terraced houses complete with miniature slate roofs, a village bakery with its own hand-painted sign and tiny cakes. A village pub, toy shop and electric lights which glowed through the neat little windows.

Describing how he was devastated when he returned to Manchester to re-visit the area and saw decades of his work crumbling into decay.

"When I left, the houses were in perfect condition.  The first person who bought the house wanted to look after them.  I didn't think about taking them then because they have been part of the area for so long.  They're part of Levenshulme's history.  I really enjoyed building and having them".

As the current owner of the property declined to comment in the Mail Online, a neighbour said, "The people that have them now have really let them go, it makes me want to cry".
