A toddler has been left permanently scarred after a terrifying incident in the changing rooms of a hotel swimming pool.
Lucas Jones, aged two, was left with shards of glass embedded in his back and hand after a glass door exploded at the Marriott Worsley Park Hotel.
The toddler's dad, Clive, bundled his bleeding son into a blanket, while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
Lucas, who had been taking part in a swimming class, underwent surgery at Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where surgeons stitched three deep wounds to his back, and one to his palm.
Although Lucas suffered an infection to the cut in his hand and is likely to be scarred for life, the child's father counts his blessings that the accident was not even more serious.
"A two-year-old only has so much blood in his body, if it had caught a main artery he could have bled to death," father-of-two Clive said.
The hotel firm as has officially admitted liability, following private legal action. A spokeswoman for the Marriott hotel said: "We take all matters of guest safety very seriously and have reviewed our safety procedures in tandem with the local authorities who are satisfied that they are stringent."
