A schoolgirl has suffered a broken leg after a speeding motorcyclist knocked her down at a zebra crossing in Horwich, Greater Manchester.
Andrew Draper, 45, of Westmorland Road, Tyldesley, admitted to driving without due care and attention at Bolton Magistrates' Court on January 15 after knocking down Maison Bailey, then aged 11. She suffered breaks to both bones in her lower leg and had to have a metal plate and screws inserted into her leg.
A spokeswoman for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said:
"Andrew Draper was summonsed by Greater Manchester Police for driving without due care and attention following their investigation into the collision.
"After the case was referred to the CPS, the evidence obtained by the police was carefully reviewed taking into account the legislation and CPS legal guidance about charging road traffic offences.
"We concluded that all the facts and evidence indicated that Mr Draper's driving fell below the standard expected of a competent and careful driver and that this was therefore the correct charge."
Maison's family has called for the zebra crossing to be upgraded to a pelican crossing to provide a safer passage for pedestrians.
