PI solicitors lash out at claims by insurers

Personal Injury Lawyers hit back at figures published by the Association of British Insurers recently suggesting that insurance fraud has reached a record high.

According to the Law Society Gazette, figures show the value of fraudulent insurance claims was up by 18% on last year with a record £1.3b claims in 2013.

It seems that fraudulent motor insurance claims were the biggest culprits totalling 59,900 claims over the previous year.

The Association of Personal Injury Lawyers responded to the report by the ABI saying the figures reflected a "cheaper to pay than investigate mentality by the insurers".

Telling law society reporters that the 'public want a fair system, where injured people get adequate compensation and medical evidence is required to prove the injury' the APIL backed its members in the article.

A spokesman for the APIL went on to say, "Insurers have the answer to stopping fraudulent claims at their own fingertips and are responsible for offering compensation before any proof of injury is obtained".

In the ABI's report they maintain that a huge 118,500 bogus or exaggerated insurance claims are detected each week.

Head of Fraud Adam Kerr says, "The message is clear, never has it been harder to get away with committing insurance fraud".
