A former nurse who suffered a fractured shoulder when she tripped over a broken car park barrier is suing the NHS for £25,000 damages.
55 year old Pauline Fowles from Essex claims that she fell over the barrier which was left broken without safety warning signs at Southend Hospital, while visiting a sick friend.
The injured woman has submitted a damages claim against the hospital at Southend County Courts thought to be a substantial sum.
Alleging that she has suffered 'ongoing symptoms of pain and loss of function in her left shoulder' since the accident in 2010, the injured party claims the hospital was negligent.
The case which is due to reach Court in September sees the hospital having already admitted liability and formally apologising to Ms Fowles.
In a statement issued by Southend Hospital, Chief Nurse, Sue Hardy said, "We would like to sincerely apologise to Ms Fowles for the distress caused by the injuries she sustained".
Ms Fowles had previously worked for 25 years at the nearby Basildon Hospital before launching her own hypnotherapy business.
The case is currently being negotiated by Ms Fowles representatives and the National Health Service Litigation Authority.
