Motorist Richard Husband is accused of careless driving this week for causing the fatal crash which killed a Paramedic and patient.
Bournemouth Crown Court heard that Husband, 26 was carrying out an overtaking manoeuvre around another car which had pulled over to allow the ambulance to pass when the crash happened.
The ambulance was driven by 42 year old Paramedic, Gillian Randall and was described by witnesses as using both 'lights and sirens' at the time of the accident.
88 year old patient Francis Ironside was also killed as the ambulance was forced off the road and overturned. He was being driven at speeds of up to 70mph on an emergency response towards Southampton for urgent treatment.
Inside the ambulance were Francis's son, David Ironside and another Paramedic, Richard Riley who were also seriously injured in the crash.
Onlookers have described Husband at the crash scene as being 'hysterical' and 'in bits'. He was said to have exclaimed, "Oh my god, look what I've done".
Admitting in Court that he had loud music on in the car at the time of the accident, Husband has blamed the teenage pupils he was carrying in his Seat Alhambra for turning the music up just before the impact.
Husband, who is a school care worker denies two counts of causing death by careless driving.
