Implant death Doc back at work

It has emerged that a doctor in Thailand accused of causing the death of a British woman he performed cosmetic surgery on, is back at work just weeks after the death.

Dr Sompob Sansiri is on bail and faces 10 years in jail for recklessly causing the death of 24-year-old Joy Williams, who flew to Bangkok to receive buttock implants.

Miss Williams died when Dr Sansiri was performing an operation to remove the implants after they had become infected.

In a move to safeguard his other patients, Dr Sansiri was ordered to close his clinic for 60 days, while the incident is investigated and the case against him prepared.

However, it has emerged that the doctor is continuing to practice at a neighbouring clinic, and staff say he has use of an operating theatre.

This case highlights the possible under-regulation of Thailand's booming cosmetic surgery industry which is attracting increasing numbers of foreign customers in recent years, due to its affordable prices.
