GP's are the most accident prone drivers

A recent study shows that family doctors are the most accident prone drivers in Britain!

Family GP's, nurses, dentists and health workers are in the top eight professions involved in car crashes, an overwhelming majority with GP's taking the top slot.

As the results were published in the Daily Mail, the survey indicated that 29 percent of GP's have made a car insurance claim in the past five years.

This may be bad medicine for the insurance industry but it appears the safest profession on the roads are car dealers who make up just three percent of claims during the same period. With other low claiming professions being bar staff, painters, plasterers, van drivers, tattoo artists and professional footballers.

Cardiff University Occupational and Health Psychology expert, Professor Andrew Smith, believes that being in a particularly stressful occupation explains why healthcare professionals seem to make more insurance claims than others.

"Stress can dramatically affect a person's health and cognitive functions.  For instance, if you are having a particularly stressful day, you may find that you become absent minded when it comes to day to day activities and find it difficult to concentrate on tasks".

It seems that stressful situations can make us clumsier although Professor Smith is quick to admit that accidents attributed to stress are usually minor bumps caused by a lack of concentration.
