E.On Plugs Recalled Amid Safety Fears

Thousands of plugs have been recalled by E.On over concerns they may cause an electric shock to users.

The firm said it was recalling two types of product with "immediate effect," including some smart energy displays that were mainly supplied to customers between 2012 and 2015, along with their smart meter.

A spokesman for E.On said:

"After testing, we've found that in rare cases, the outer casing can come loose, showing the internal wires causing an electrical safety risk. As a precaution we'll be replacing the adaptors affected.

"The types of power adaptors affected were mainly given to customers who had smart meters installed between September 2012 and October 2015.

"Our main concern is the safety of our customers. This recall is a precaution after independent tests have shown that there is a small failure rate with two models of our power adaptors."

The affected products are model TEKA006-0500500BS and model SPS-02C5-0.5CU. The company said it was writing to affected customers to let them know about the recall.
