Seventeen people were left injured after a double-decker bus was involved in a serious collision with a railway bridge in Rochdale.
Seventeen passengers were left with varying degrees of injury when the roof of a First Manchester bus was ripped off after it was driven into a bridge in Rochdale. Among the casualties included a man and woman with serious facial injuries and several others with minor cuts and bruises.
Inspector Stephen Clarke, from GMP's Rochdale division, said:
"Clearly there are lots of people in shock, but luckily no one was trapped on the bus.
"Our investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing and we would encourage anyone with any information to get in touch."
A spokesman for First confirmed that the bus was being driven by a woman but dismissed claims that it was her first day on the job. Following the incident, 11 people were taken to Rochdale Infirmary and Royal Oldham Hospital for further treatment.
