A dog that viciously attacked a five-year-old girl has been deemed to pose 'no threat' to the public and has been returned to its owners.
The attack happened when Megan Windsor was playing with the dog outside her home in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport. The five-year-old suffered three puncture wounds to the neck. She was rushed to hospital where she underwent surgery and received stitches in her neck.
Despite the seriousness of Megan's injuries, the police officers who assessed the dog after the incident concluded that it did not pose a risk to other members of the public. The pet, believed to be a Shar Pei, remains with its owner.
Now, Megan's mum Katie Windsor, has criticised the police's response, saying:
"It's nobody's fault but the dog's. The incident has left Megan feeling afraid of going out onto the front, and she hasn't been near a dog since. I try to tell her not all dogs are the same."
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police, said:
"The dog was assessed by officers and it was determined that the dog did not pose a risk to other members of the public and at this time remains in the custody of its owner.
"Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing."
